Cedar Hammock Fire Control District was originally created in 1957 by Chapter 57-1546, Laws of Florida, and is one of nine Fire Districts within the unincorporated area of Manatee County, Florida. The Districts’ enabling legislation was codified by the legislature and is now contained in Chapter 2015-197, Laws of Florida.

The District is located in the southwest section of Manatee County, Florida, spanning an area over 21 square miles. CHFCD protects a population ranging from 60,000 to 90,000 depending on the season. There is a spill-over population of 363,000 within Manatee County as well.

To ensure the best service delivery model for the constituents of the district, CHFCD operates five engine companies from four stations, which are strategically located within the district boundaries. Each station is staffed 24 hours a day with career personnel.

In 2007, CHFCD merged with the Whitfield Fire Control District. District boundaries are south of the City of Bradenton, east of 86th Street West, west of First Street, and north of the Sarasota County line. Major transportation routes through/within the District include:

CHFCD currently is assigned a Class 2 rating from the Insurance Safety Office (ISO). Insurance rates are based in combination by the ISO rating of the local fire department, water department, and emergency communications center.  Residents in the Cedar Hammock Fire Control District save thousands on their homeowners insurance by having good fire protection.
